(Natural News) While you’d be hard pressed to find anyone willing to use a known herbicide for medicinal purposes, that hasn’t stopped Monsanto from patenting the star ingredient of their flagship herbicide, Roundup, as a type of antibiotic. In 2003, the corporate giant first submitted a patent for glyphosate as a parasitic control-type antimicrobial agent — or, in other words, a type of antibiotic.
The patent was granted in 2010, and you can view it here. Monsanto patented the combination of glyphosate and polyvalent anion oxalic acid as a method for preventing and treating pathogenic infections like malaria. As the patent explains, parasites from the phylum of Apicomplexa are often responsible for diseases in humans and other animals — and glyphosate is capable of inhibiting the growth of these parasites.
This patent certainly brings even more concerns about the impending Bayer-Monsanto merger, but  more importantly, it raises a significant question: is glyphosate contributing to the proliferation of antibiotic-resistant bacteria?
Study finds glyphosate causes antibiotic resistance
Recent research has revealed that the herbicide could indeed be a contributing factor to the“superbug” epidemic that is being seen around the world. Scientists from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand have piloted new research that shows glyphosate is not just an herbicide, but a potential vector for antibiotic-resistant disease.
The study is the first of its kind. Professor Jack Heinemann, from the university, says that while herbicides may be tested for their ability to kill bacteria, they are not tested for what other effects they may have on microbes.
“We found that exposure to some very common herbicides can cause bacteria to change their response to antibiotics. They often become antibiotic resistant, but we also saw increased susceptibility or no effect. In most cases, we saw increased resistance even to important clinical antibiotics,” Heinemann commented.
The professor went on to explain that their results were so surprising that they enlisted another researcher from a different institution to conduct the same exact experiments in a different environment and without knowing exactly what she was adding to the bacteria, to help ensure the validity of their findings. The research conducted at Massey University yielded the same results as that done by the University of Canterbury.
According to the researchers, the effects they uncovered would be relevant to people and animals who are exposed to pesticides used in similar concentrations to that of what was tested. While the amounts used by the team were of greater concentration than what is currently supposed to be allowed in food — as we all know, the amount of glyphosate residue in and on food often surpasses what is deemed “permissible.” [RELATED: Keep up with the latest herbicide scandals at Glyphosate.news]
As antibiotic resistance continues to grow, the threat that glyphosate poses simply cannot be ignored. The effects of herbicides like glyphosate can have on bacteria are very real — especially given the chemical’s tendency to be intentionally misused by farmers as a desiccant.
Does glyphosate alter healthy bacteria in the gut, too?
Pathogenic bacteria are not the only microbes susceptible to the ill effects of glyphosate. The bacteria that reside in the human gut can also be harmed by the toxic herbicide. The very same shikamate pathway that glyphosate uses to target weeds and pathogenic bacteria species is the same pathway it would use to destroy the friendly and beneficial bacteria that inhabit the intestinal microbiome. This, of course, would come with its own host of adverse health effects.
There is no reason to believe that if glyphosate is capable of killing or altering one type of bacteria, that it would not harm other bacteria via the same pathway. Some research has already alluded to the potential for glyphosate to wreak havoc on the human digestive system. Given that the microbiome is of great importance to overall human health, findings such as this are not surprising: if glyphosate is killing off intestinal bacteria, it stands to reason that may be the first point of disease. Furthermore, some research has shown that glyphosate is capable of altering gut bacteria in other animals — for example, in 2014 German scientists found that glyphosate negatively affected the gut bacteria of cows.
It seems that the more we learn about glyphosate, the more dangerous it becomes.

It's Not Gluten Intolerance - It's GLYPHOSATE POISONING!!!

I've been going on about glyphosate for some time. It's the main ingredient in Roundup, produced by Monsanto.

Glyphosate is used as a dessicant (drying agent). The little packet of silica gel in your vitamins and beef jerky packets have a warning on them.

Glyphosate is a billion times worse!

So...I've told you previously that I experience gut discomfort daily from the "incident" from over four years ago.

Today, I eschewed ingesting bread.

My discomfort is completely manageable today!

Glyphosate is used extensively in harvesting wheat.

A lot of people complain of gluten intolerance...what I want to say to you is that you are NOT.

You are experiencing GLYPHOSATE POISONING.

Ask your physician to test for glyphosate in your gut flora. If he can, or won't, find another physician.

By the way, Healthmasters reported that NALID is being sprayed in Florida, purportedly to combat the outbreak of Zika being blamed on mosquitoes.

Look up NALID. One of the side effects is induced MICROCEPHALY in offspring!

Monsanto et.al. have deleted the Gene HMDB25030 from all their patented food and feed seeds and their patented vegetables foods and it is missing from nearly all processed food as well because it breaks down at 210F during the preparation of processed foods. It is the compound that represents most of the Immune System of Plants and the ONLY compound in foods that our Immune System incorporates directly into our Immune and Cellular Repair Systems to protect Neutrophils internally from the compounds produced to Kill Bacteria and Process Vaccines.

A normal Minimum Daily Requirement of HMDB35030 in the diet would be 1 mg. per 3 pounds of body weight from vegetables and food grains (non-GM, non-GMO and non-processed foods including soy baby formulas and baby food in jars have NONE now).

A 2014 study done to check Amygdalin Content of Foods in the UK clearly shows less than a few 100ths of what should be in the foods listed instead of the naturally occuring amounts which should fall between .1- 17 mg. per gram of food. Statistically, because of the wide variance of HMDB35030 content of the many foods tested, there should be a similar ratio in the processed foods but they are consistantly Completely Devoid of the Essential Nutrient across the variety spectrum.

Where has all the HMDB35030 and the resulting Essential Metabolic Compound HMDB01453, Thiocyanate gone and why? The ‘why’ is Trillions of dollars in profit for the medical industry made in treating the symptoms of Thiocyanate Deficiency in Vaccine Induced Child Autism, Gulf War Syndrome, MS, Cystic Fibrosis, Fibromyaglia, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, Lou Gehrig’s, and many other diseases with ‘unknown causes’ related to the dysfunctional neutraphils which self-destruct in the presence of a Thiocyanate Deficiency.

I'll end with my own mini-rant on glyphosate:
Glyphosate...the only reason I can determine that millions of tons of this crap being sprayed onto our crops and into our soil is that it makes us taste good to...something.


We really don't need to dedicate crops to this point, considering that an inordinate amount of crop yield gets wasted in silos, during transport, etc. - and people aren't really suffering from gluten intolerance. If anything, the introduction of glyphosate to our ecosystem needs to be more thoroughly researched.

Obesity? Not an issue until the introduction of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS).

This actually needs to be added to my GM No! blog...anyway, I do hope that you are all able to enjoy the latter half of this Memorial Day!

Another GMO Whore Heard From (Re-Post from GMO Answers)

Before I put up the Richie Allen video featuring Professor Seneff, there was a YouTube commenter by the name of dsndicmsa, who I'm hoping isn't getting paid to shill for Monsanto (pssst...you're not getting your money's worth). The commenter engaged in much bashing of Stephanie, and I decided to refute a number of proffered statements by said commenter. As a newer user of Google Plus, I was unaware of comment duplication, so you may see multiple responses to comments. I'm learning something new every day.

In a recent literature survey published by Samsel and Seneff, an argument is made for a possible link between the incidence of celiac disease in the United States and the use of the herbicide glyphosate.

A key element of the authors’ argument is based on a single example of a study with fish (Senapati et al., 2009). In that study, adverse effects were observed in fish that were exposed to water containing a glyphosate-based herbicide. Samsel and Seneff concluded that the effects observed in the fish were "highly reminiscent of celiac disease." The Senapati fish paper is itself deeply flawed, but it is also irrelevant.

Senapati et al. exposed fish in tanks to a glyphosate rate of 4mg/L, added as a commercial formulation manufactured in India, called Excel Mera-71. That is a formulation made for terrestrial, not aquatic, use, and it is described as containing glyphosate and "a blend of non-ionic and cationic surfactants." At least in the United States, products registered for use on emerged weeds growing in water do not contain surfactants, because they are known to injure fish. The 4mg/L concentration used in the Senapati study was also more than twice as high as the highest rate allowed for a legitimate aquatic formulation, AquaMaster, in the United States. In addition, the water in which the fish were kept was replaced every other day for 45 days with a fresh supply of the surfactant-containing herbicide—not something relevant to any real-world situation. There was no surfactant control in this study, even though surfactants are well known for being able to cause injury to the gills and digestive tracks of fish. The Senapati study simply redocumented the fact that long-term, high-rate exposure of fish to surfactants is damaging, while glyphosate and its primary metabolite, AMPA, are classified as "practically non-toxic" to fish by the EPA.

There is no pattern of potential glyphosate exposure for humans in the United States that is even remotely like that in this poorly designed fish study. The formulation surfactants would not be present in human foods, the rates of glyphosate would be orders of magnitude lower and they would be in the form of the metabolite AMPA. 

The Senapati study simply provides no meaningful data that Samsel and Seneff can use to connect glyphosate and celiac incidence.

Whenever I read a phrase that goes, "classified as "practically non-toxic" to fish by the EPA", I say to myself...YOU DIDN'T PERFORM ANY BLOODY STUDY AT ALL, DID YOU?

I was listening to Dr. Ted Broer this morning, and he echoes the sentiments of this study - that it isn't intolerance to gluten that we are all experiencing all of a sudden; rather, it's the recent application of glyphosate as a dessicant to increase crop yields.

I find this utterly unnecessary, considering the amounts of food that are being discarded daily; in fact, there was a ridiculous story about a green grocer who had their food too far out on the sidewalk, so city workers were THROWING IT AWAY.

Probably right in front of starving people.

Then there's a throw-away reference to "real-world" situations...as if in the real world, pollution doesn't stay on one place, it migrates, like the homeless guy who manages to freshly defecate on your wall, just as you're coming home with fresh baked goods.

In the study, they kept the level of pollution constant; in the real world, the level of pollution will get WORSE. I thought the study was exceedingly kind, considering.

Just to finish this with the proper bit of zing...he's a hell of an "independent expert", considering his ties to a number of biotech firms. Sort of like Colonel Sanders being an independent expert on chicken.
